 Education

WARNING! THIS SECTION WILL BE BORING TO ALL BUT THOSE WHO LOVE ME, OR WANT TO STALK ME.  WELCOME TO BOTH.

I grew up in the Delmar Loop and attended Delmar-Harvard elementary school from kindergarten through the 5th grade.  When I was 10 years old my parents bought a house not far from Heman Park, and I transferred to Jackson Park elementary school for 6th grade.  I went to Hanley Junior High for 7th grade, but only part of 8th grade.

I was a wild kid and was taken out of Hanley Junior High in 8th grade and sent to a children's institution in Cleveland named Bellefaire.  I attended their school until I settled down and was sent to Wiley Junior High School when I was in the 9th grade. I went to Cleveland Heights High School for 10th and 11th grades, and returned to University City finish high school my senior year.

While I was at U. City Senior High School I joined the track team and earn a varsity letter.  My best time in the 100 yard dash was 10.5 seconds, and I ran a 51 second quarter mile.  I was also on the 880 yard relay, and my best 220 was 22 seconds flat.

I went to the University of Missouri at St. Louis for my freshman year.  I was a reporter on the school newspaper, the UMSL Current.  Back then they only had 3 buildings, now they're a sprawling campus.

My father was a furrier who couldn't find enough work in St. Louis in 1967, and took a job in Detroit. After I came back from National Guard active duty I moved to Detroit where I finished college at Wayne State University.  I got a B.A. in liberal arts with a major in Sociology.  Later, I went back to night school and took some business graduate courses.

In my Business Law course we had an assignment to "effect social change."  We were given 8 weeks to accomplish this.  My group chose eliminating pay toilets at the Detroit airport.  To that end I wrote letters to the editor, formed a group called Citizens Against Pay Toilets (CAPT) had bumper stickers made, and did radio and TV interviews.  Our group filed a class action suit against the airport on the basis that pay toilets unfairly discriminated against women.  We contended that women only have one option in a public bathroom, while men can use the urinals without having to pay to use them.  We were successful and because of us, the Detroit Airport got rid of all of their pay toilets and we each got an "A" in this class.

Besides my college education, I took a number of classes related to my real estate career.  For a while I held a real estate sales license in California, and later a broker's license in Missouri.  Here is a list of my classes:
